Gratitude List 24/05/2019: I could moan…

Gratitude List 24/05/2019

I write this list as I come off a night shift. Tired is an understatement. Four hours sleep since 6:30am on Wednesday. I could moan, but what’s the point.

Today I am grateful I have a job. Some do not.

Today I am grateful I predominantly work social hours. Some do not.

Today I am grateful I enjoy my work. Some do not.

Today I am grateful I get on with my colleagues. Some do not.

Today I am grateful to have this Bank Holiday weekend off. Some do not.

Today I am grateful I slept well for those four hours. Some do not.

Today I am grateful I slept peacefully. Some do not.

Today I am grateful I got to sleep at all. Some do not.

Today I am grateful I have a home to return to. Some do not.

Today I am grateful I have a bed to climb into. Some do not.

Today I am grateful I have a duvet to keep me warm. Some do not.

Today I am grateful I have a pillow to rest my head. Some do not.

Today I am grateful I am able to think like this. Some do not.

Today I am grateful I woke up. Some did not.

Gratitude List 23/05/2019: Overspill

Gratitude List 23/05/2019

Today I am grateful that by attending fellowship meetings I have learnt so much. What happens in those rooms is nothing short of magical. The blessing is, if I work it, the magic overspills into my life outside the rooms.

Today I am grateful that by sharing and listening in the rooms, I now communicate better with my family, friends and loved ones.

Today I am grateful that by continuously speaking aloud in the rooms, I am more confident in speaking in front of people at work.

Today I am grateful that by practicing anonymity in the rooms, I have become a more trustworthy friend and less of a gossip.

Today I am grateful that by being honest in the rooms, I am now more comfortable in telling my family how I feel.

Today I am grateful that by doing service for others in the rooms, I can do things for my girlfriend without expecting thanks.

Today I am grateful that by using open-mindedness in the rooms, I am able to remain open-minded when I come across spiritually sick people.

Today I am grateful that by reading Just For Today in the rooms, I am not afraid to enjoy the beautiful world around me.

Today I am grateful that by being vulnerable and admitting my own flaws in the rooms, I judge less the people who harm me.

Today I am grateful that by saying the serenity prayer at the end of each meeting, I can accept the things I cannot change, I can change the things I can and the wisdom in knowing the difference is forever growing.

Gratitude List 22/05/2019

Gratitude List 22/05/2019: Plan

Today I am grateful for the time I took to start my day on the right foot.

Today I am grateful I planned to go to the gym.

Today I am grateful life allowed my plan to play out.

Today I am grateful my self-will didn’t interfere.

Today I am grateful I remembered the gym entry code!

Today I am grateful for my increased heart rate.

Today I am grateful my muscles have been awoken from hibernation.

Today I am grateful for taking some necessary action.

Today I am grateful I currently have no obsession to eat compulsively.

Today I am grateful this morning’s action has led to another and another and another. God willing I’ll see some of you at Foley Street.

😊🙏🏻👍🏻❤💪🏻

Gratitude List 21/05/2019: WILL

Gratitude List 21/05/2019

Today I am grateful I am, to the best of my ability, doing all I can to be the best father I can possibly be.

Today I am grateful I am, to the best of my ability, doing all I can to be the best son I can possibly be.

Today I am grateful I am, to the best of my ability, doing all I can to be the best brother I can possibly be.

Today I am grateful I am, to the best of my ability, doing all I can to be the best boyfriend I can possibly be.

Today I am grateful I am, to the best of my ability, doing all I can to be the best friend I can possibly be.

Today I am grateful I am, to the best of my ability, doing all I can to be the best member of the community I can possibly be.

Today I am grateful I am, to the best of my ability, doing all I can to be the best colleague I can possibly be.

Today I am grateful I am, to the best of my ability, doing all I can to be the best fellow I can possibly be.

Today I am grateful I am, to the best of my ability, doing all I can to be the best version of me.

Today I am grateful I am aware that to be the best version and live a life beyond my wildest dreams, full of happiness, serenity and success, I need only focus on one thing – recovery.

From experience…

if I try to be the best father I WON’T.

if I try to be the best fellow I WON’T.

if I try to be happy I WON’T.

But….

if I hand over my life to a Greater Power

if I do my daily suggestions

if I complete and then work the steps

if I practice unity

if I serve others

I WILL grow spiritually and I WILL give myself the best possible chance.

Gratitude List 18/05/2019: an amazing human being

Gratitude List 18/05/2019

After expressing gratitude towards my girlfriend and daughter, quite naturally my list today reflects on my son and the amazing human being he is.

Today I am grateful for the relationship we share. Despite his teenage tendencies, we are very close.

Today I am grateful for our shared interests, in particular Game Of Thrones which we also share with my girlfriend.

Today I am grateful for how much he cares for his little sister. Despite what can seem like constant bickering the love quite often shines through.

Today I am grateful for how he still cracks up laughter. It’s not often but sometimes he can’t help himself.

Today I am grateful that he always has a story to tell when I collect him. There’s always something he’s been looking forward to sharing.

Today I am grateful for how accepting he has been regarding the situations he has found himself.

Today I am grateful for how he reminds me of me. That thought used to scare me, now it’s a comforting thought.

Today I am grateful for the courage he has shown. The bravery he has shown is phenomenal.

Today I am grateful for his honesty. I know he’s found it difficult but I am grateful for the release he gets when he gets things off his chest.

Today I am grateful for the understanding and forgiveness he has shown towards me.
